Arkansas State Police have arrested a 32-year-old man following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash along Interstate 555 near Trumann, leaving two people seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, when a trooper attempted to stop a northbound Hyundai Sonata for a traffic violation. According to a Friday news release from Arkansas State Police, the suspect, identified as Laloyd L. Hamilton III, fled at speeds reaching approximately 130 miles per hour.
The pursuit came to a halt near mile marker 28 when the trooper executed a tactical vehicle intervention. This maneuver caused Hamilton’s car to collide with another vehicle, which then overturned. A 68-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man inside the second vehicle were seriously injured and transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis for treatment.
Hamilton was taken to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro for evaluation before being booked into the Poinsett County Detention Center.
A search of Hamilton’s vehicle uncovered narcotics, including marijuana, pills, and an unidentified liquid substance, Arkansas State Police said.
Hamilton faces multiple charges related to the chase and narcotics recovered during the investigation. Further details about his charges and court appearances were not immediately available.
