Jonesboro city officials have temporarily closed a section of South Main Street to vehicle traffic after debris fell from a building on Monday afternoon.
According to a city statement, around 1:30 p.m., part of the front column of a two-story building at 219 South Main Street detached and fell onto the sidewalk. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The vehicle closure affects the 200 block of South Main Street, extending between Huntington Avenue and Cate Avenue. Pedestrian access is still permitted but restricted to areas outside a buffer marked with safety tape.
Officials said the debris was neither large nor extensive, but as a precaution, the building has been evacuated, and a temporary vehicle closure is in place while structural engineers evaluate the situation. The city emphasized that the situation is not expected to lead to long-term disruptions, as stabilization efforts will aim to address the issue promptly. However, no timeline has been established for completing the repairs.
Drivers and pedestrians are advised to observe the restrictions and exercise caution in the area until further notice.
