Craighead County, Ark. — State Highway 18 near Winesburg will close for construction beginning Tuesday, August 11, at 8 a.m. and is expected to remain shut down around the clock until 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 15. The affected stretch is located between State Highway 91 and County Road 160, north of State Highway 226.
According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), the closure is necessary to construct a box culvert along the roadway. Local traffic will still be able to access areas on either side of the project between Highways 226 and 91. However, through traffic will need to utilize detours.
Signed detour routes will guide drivers around the closure. For those traveling to the west side of the construction zone, drivers will use Highway 18 east to Highway 91, Highway 91 south to Highway 349, Highway 349 south to Highway 226, and Highway 226 west back to Highway 18. For eastbound traffic, the detour follows Highway 18 west to Highway 226, Highway 226 east to Highway 349, Highway 349 north to Highway 91, and Highway 91 north back to Highway 18.
Motorists passing through the area are advised to plan for delays and follow posted signage. The project aims to improve drainage infrastructure in the area, providing long-term benefits for the county.
