JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro woman has been charged with a felony after allegedly assaulting a 70-year-old family member during a domestic dispute. Tyrhanie Charday Barnett, 27, faces a charge of second-degree domestic battering causing physical injury, a Class B felony. According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were called to an apartment on Links Circle on Thursday, Aug. 6. The elderly relative told police that Barnett became upset after being asked to have a friend leave the residence. During the argument, Barnett allegedly climbed onto the chair where the relative was seated and struck them in the face. She then reportedly kicked the victim in the knee and shin. Police said they observed redness on the alleged victim’s face and swelling around the lower left knee and shin, which they described as consistent with the victim’s account. Due to the victim’s age, the charge was escalated to second-degree domestic battering, which carries a potential sentence of five to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Barnett was taken into custody at the Craighead County Detention Center. She appeared before Circuit Judge Tommy Fowler on Friday, Aug. 7. The judge set her bond at $75,000 cash or surety and issued a no-contact order. The public defender’s office has been appointed to represent Barnett. Barnett’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
