TRUMANN, Ark. — An Arkansas State Police (ASP) pursuit Wednesday evening on Interstate 555 ended in a crash that left two people seriously injured and a driver facing multiple charges.
Around 7 p.m. on August 5, an ASP trooper attempted to stop a northbound Hyundai Sonata at the 24-mile marker for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Laloyd L. Hamilton III, refused to pull over and accelerated to approximately 130 mph, initiating a chase, according to ASP.
The pursuit continued to the 28-mile marker, where the trooper conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) to stop the Hyundai. After the maneuver, Hamilton’s vehicle collided with another car, causing it to overturn on the east side of the interstate, authorities said.
A 68-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man were inside the overturned vehicle. Both were rushed to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis with serious injuries. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
Hamilton was taken to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro for evaluation. Law enforcement officials said a search of his vehicle uncovered drugs, including marijuana, pills, and an unidentified liquid substance.
Hamilton is now in custody at the Poinsett County Detention Center. He faces several charges, including Felony Fleeing, second-degree Battery, Criminal Mischief, Possession with Purpose to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Hazardous Driving, and Driving While Intoxicated.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
