A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, to mark the official opening of the new Highway 65B bridge over Crooked Creek in Harrison. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. and will commemorate the completion of a $10 million infrastructure project overseen by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).
The new bridge replaces a previous structure and features significant upgrades to enhance safety, modernize traffic flow, and support future development in the area. Key improvements include wider travel lanes, a dedicated center turning lane, an updated traffic signal, and expanded sidewalks on both sides of the bridge.
“This bridge represents a major investment in the safety and efficiency of our local transportation network,” ARDOT Director Jared Wiley said. “The wider lanes, turning lane, updated traffic signal, and expanded sidewalks will make a noticeable difference for everyone who uses this corridor.”
The bridge project was awarded to West Plains Bridge & Grading LLC and is part of a broader effort to upgrade critical infrastructure across Arkansas, promoting long-term regional mobility and economic growth.
Parking for the ceremony will be available at the Creekside Community and Aquatics Center, located at 515 South Spring Street in Harrison. A shuttle service will transport attendees to the bridge site.
Community leaders, project partners, and ARDOT officials are expected to attend the event, which highlights the importance of modern infrastructure for the Boone County area.
