The municipal filing period in Marion County closed Wednesday with seven new candidates submitting their paperwork before the noon deadline, leading to five contested races across the county.
In Bull Shoals, Kevin Hutchinson filed for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat. A race is also set for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat, where incumbent Shellie Salza will face challenger Travis Fancher.
Flippin saw two new candidates emerge on the final day. Rick White filed for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat and will challenge current officeholder Jodi Howard. In Ward 2, Position 2, Jeremiah Hogan filed to run against C. Dane Hudson.
The most activity came from Pyatt, where three candidates—Wendy Nelson, Douglas Carter, and Austin Adams—filed for City Council positions. Details on the specific positions they are pursuing were not immediately available.
In Summit, Tobey Norberg has entered the race for mayor and is currently unopposed.
Yellville saw one additional filing, with Clark Gustin announcing his candidacy for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat.
Marion County voters will decide these municipal races as part of Arkansas’ general election on November 3.
