A man charged with second-degree murder in connection with a January altercation in Walnut Ridge has been transferred from the Lawrence County Detention Center to Randolph County ahead of his jury trial, scheduled to begin Monday.
Logan Rentz is accused of causing the death of a man during an altercation in the parking lot behind Main Street Pizza in downtown Walnut Ridge. According to police, officers responded to the scene, where they found the victim unresponsive. The man was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Initially booked on aggravated assault charges, Rentz’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder following the police investigation.
According to reporting from Imboden Live, court records show that the trial was originally set to begin in June. However, a motion for a continuance was filed, pushing the trial to its current October start date. Attorneys for Rentz have submitted several motions and formal notices to the court in preparation for the trial.
