A 96-year-old Jonesboro woman has died after being hit by a truck while walking in a crosswalk Tuesday evening. Authorities say the driver fled the scene.

According to the Jonesboro Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Nettleton Avenue and Nettleton Circle. Traffic Sergeant Michael Bush reported that the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was making a lawful left turn onto Nettleton Circle on a green light when the truck struck the woman, who was in the crosswalk but did not appear to use the crossing signals.

The woman suffered broken bones, severe lacerations, and other critical injuries. Emergency crews transported her to Region One Medical Center in Memphis, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has not yet been released.

The truck's driver, identified as a 52-year-old man, was not injured in the collision but fled the scene following the crash, according to an incident report. Police have confirmed they are actively investigating the case and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
