Drivers planning to cross Bull Shoals Dam today should prepare for delays, as Highway 178 will be temporarily closed to allow routine maintenance.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the closure will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and has been coordinated with local emergency management and law enforcement agencies to minimize disruptions.

During the closure, drivers heading north of the dam will be detoured from Highway 178 through Lakeview to Highway 5 south via Midway. The detour will continue on Highway 126 south through Gassville and then onto Highway 412 west through Flippin before reconnecting to Highway 178 in Bull Shoals. Southbound travelers will follow the same detour in reverse.

Motorists seeking additional information can contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Project Office in Mountain Home at 870-425-2700. Drivers can also check real-time traffic updates on IDriveArkansas before heading out.

The maintenance work is part of regular efforts to ensure the safety and functionality of the dam infrastructure as well as public roadways.
