BROOKLAND, Ark. — A Craighead County judge sentenced a Brookland man to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty on Monday to raping a child under the age of 14 over a two-year period.
Dustin Cole Orr, 21, entered into a negotiated guilty plea to one count of rape, a Class Y felony. Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Scott Ellington imposed a sentence of 180 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, with an additional 180 months of suspended imposition of sentence. Orr will also receive credit for 452 days of time served in jail.
According to court documents, two additional rape charges and a charge of fourth-degree sexual assault against Orr were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Upon release, Orr will be required to register as a sex offender and pay court costs and fines in $50 monthly installments.
The case came to light after the victim disclosed details of the assaults to an officer with the Brookland Police Department. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim reported that Orr had sexually assaulted them repeatedly over a two-year period and described multiple incidents. During a Mirandized interview, Orr admitted to engaging in what he claimed to be consensual sexual contact with the victim on multiple occasions.
Neither the victim’s age nor gender was disclosed in an effort to shield their identity, and due to the sensitive nature of the case.
Orr’s sentence underscores Arkansas law classifying rape, including the sexual assault of children, as a Class Y felony—the most severe classification of offenses in the state system, excluding capital offenses.
