The golf season began Monday with day one of the Calvin and Sissy Czeschin Memorial Tournament at Big Creek Country Club in Mountain Home. After the opening round, the Harrison boys and Rogers girls teams emerged as the frontrunners.
On the boys’ side, Harrison posted a team score of 3-over-par, giving them a commanding 19-stroke lead over Rogers. Mountain Home’s boys, sitting at 30-over-par, are in fourth place and eight strokes back from second place.
Berkley Knapp of Harrison holds the individual lead with a stellar 5-under-par through 18 holes. For Mountain Home, Cody Cormican and Teagan Booy paced the Bombers with rounds of 76. Braxton Blagg and Bailor Tate followed, each shooting 83, while Cameron Stone rounded out the varsity team at 14-over-par.
The Bombers’ junior varsity team also saw action Monday. Leading the junior squad was Christian Chamberlin at 10-over-par. He was followed by Liam Gaston at 11-over-par, Calder Chamberlin at 15-over-par, and Brody Brown at 18-over-par.
On the girls’ side, Rogers leads the field with a team score of 26-over-par, narrowly ahead of Russellville, which sits three strokes back in second. The Mountain Home girls are in fourth place at 86-over-par in a field of eight teams.
Russellville’s Rocelle Manns turned in the best individual performance on the girls’ side, scoring a 2-under-par 70. For Mountain Home, Ashley Smith led the Lady Bombers, shooting a 91, or 19-over-par, placing her 19th individually. Molly Wright followed with a 107, while Brylee Blasdel, Ava Caples, and Taylor Cotter also contributed to the team’s effort.
Competition in the Calvin and Sissy Czeschin Memorial Tournament will continue Tuesday as teams and individuals aim to improve on their opening-round performances.
