Monday's municipal election filings saw a mix of returning incumbents and new contenders declaring their candidacy ahead of the November general election in Arkansas.
In Mountain Home, incumbent Council Member Bob Van Haaren filed for reelection to Ward 3, Position 1. In Cotter, Ang Pereira, also an incumbent, submitted paperwork to retain her seat in Ward 3, Position 2 on the city council.
A three-way race has emerged in Gassville for City Council Ward 1, Position 2. Incumbent Ben Frost will face challengers Robert Simmons and Michael Fouts. Additionally, Sierra Palmer filed for Gassville’s Ward 3, Position 1, joining Rick Hawkins, who filed for the same seat last week.
Lakeview Mayor Ralph Edge officially announced his reelection bid on Monday, joined by incumbent Lindsey Reubin, who filed for Ward 1, Position 2 alderman.
In Norfork, Angela Parnell filed as the incumbent for City Council Ward 3, Position 2. Yellville saw Layton Lee declare his candidacy for City Council Ward 1, Position 1.
In Big Flat, all current council members have filed for reelection. Sharon K. White, Bonnie J. Sutterfield, Shawn Shelton, Kim Shelton, and Lonnie Holt each submitted applications to return to their respective positions.
The filing period remains open until noon Wednesday for prospective candidates. The municipal election is scheduled for November 3 as part of Arkansas’ general election.
