Gasoline prices in Arkansas declined by an average of 8.7 cents per gallon over the last week, bringing the statewide average to $3.69 per gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,826 stations across the state. This marks a modest decrease, though prices remain 32.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and have risen 94.6 cents per gallon compared to the same period last year.

The national average for gasoline fell by 0.8 cents per gallon during the same period, landing at $4.05 per gallon, while the national average for diesel fuel climbed 7.1 cents to $5.32 per gallon.

GasBuddy reported a substantial range in fuel prices across Arkansas. The lowest price recorded was $3.29 per gallon in Texarkana, while the highest reached $4.49 per gallon, marking a $1.20 difference. In north-central Arkansas, notable price fluctuations persist across counties. In Calico Rock, fuel costs $3.58 per gallon at the lowest-reported station. Baxter County prices range from $3.70 to $3.80 per gallon, while Marion County prices range between $3.79 and $3.86 per gallon. In Fulton County, drivers are paying $3.72 to $3.80 per gallon. Izard County sees prices of $3.58 to $3.88 per gallon, while Stone County reported costs from $3.78 to $4.09 per gallon. In Boone County, fuel prices fall between $3.81 and $3.99 per gallon. Insufficient data was available for Newton County comparisons.

Over the longer term, gasoline prices across both Arkansas and the country have risen notably in recent years. On August 3 of previous years, average prices in Arkansas were as follows:

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, noted that geopolitical pressures, including instability in oil-producing regions and disruptions from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, are exerting upward pressure on global oil markets. He cautioned that the national average may soon hit its highest level recorded at this time of year, though it remains below historic peaks set in 2022.
