The Marion County Quorum Court is scheduled to hold its regular meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., with a range of local infrastructure and funding matters on the agenda.
Among the new business items, justices of the peace will consider amendments to an ordinance regarding the purchase and installation of an automatic door system and entrance modifications at the Marion County Library. The upgrades aim to improve accessibility at the facility.
The court is also expected to vote on two key resolutions. One resolution would authorize the Marion County Judge to explore financing options for the county's 20% match required under the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program. This funding would address damages to five bridges and low-water crossings, including Mocassin Creek and Jimmie Creek bridges, as well as Blue John, Clabber Creek, and Fallen Ash Creek crossings, stemming from a 2024 flooding event.
Another proposed resolution would allow the Marion County Office of Emergency Management to apply for a grant to enhance the sheltering capabilities of the Marion County Community Center.
Other business on the agenda includes several ordinances:
- An amendment to ordinance 2025-01, which outlines rules of procedure for the quorum court's fiscal years 2025 and 2026. - The transfer of $150,000 from the sales tax-solid waste/recycling fund to the utilities waste disposal fund for payments to Waste Connections for compactor pick-up services at the Marion County Transfer Station. - The allocation of $35,000 in unappropriated funds for repairs to the county clerk’s basement window and the installation of HVAC systems on the main floor and in the basement of the courthouse. - The creation of a new special fund to comply with federal accounting and auditing requirements. - An amendment to the budget for the Marion County Collector’s Office to add a part-time deputy position, capped at 25 hours per week at $13 per hour. This addition is attributed to the county's growth in personal assessments, real estate purchases, and other responsibilities such as disabled veteran assistance and fire dues assessments.
