A Batesville man was arrested in Stone County after allegedly threatening to kill a 17-year-old male with a knife during an argument that unfolded in front of the suspect’s 4-year-old son.
The Stone County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as 36-year-old Cody Nathaniel Smith, who is being held in the Stone County Detention Center on multiple felony charges.
According to the victim, the incident occurred during a visit to a family member’s residence. The teenager told deputies that Smith arrived unannounced, accusing him of overcharging for floor work. The confrontation escalated when Smith allegedly began swinging at the 17-year-old, prompting a physical struggle between the two. The victim reported that Smith's 4-year-old son witnessed the altercation and yelled for the pair to stop fighting.
Smith reportedly told authorities that the teenager's language provoked his response.
Smith is facing charges of aggravated assault and first-degree terroristic threatening, both felonies. In addition, he could face increased penalties due to the alleged commission of a felony in the presence of a minor.
His bond has been set at $50,000, according to officials.
