JONESBORO, Ark. — A 70-year-old woman has been charged with commercial burglary and felony theft after allegedly shoplifting from a Walmart in Jonesboro despite being prohibited from entering the store.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jennie Reed was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Walmart on Parker Road. A loss prevention officer informed police that Reed was observed placing five items into her purse and passing the final point of sale without paying.
A Jonesboro police officer apprehended Reed as she exited the store. During a search of her purse, authorities reportedly found the concealed merchandise, although the affidavit does not specify the items or their total value.
Further investigation revealed that Reed had an active ban from that Walmart location, law enforcement said. A background check also indicated that she had a prior theft conviction dated Nov. 1, 2023.
Reed is charged with commercial burglary, a Class C felony, and theft of $1,000 or less, second offense, a Class D felony.
On Monday, District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to move forward with the case and set Reed’s bond at $20,000 cash or surety. In setting the bond, the judge noted Reed’s theft history.
Reed is being represented by attorney Randel Miller. Her next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 30 at the Craighead County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
