The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has announced plans to conduct boundary line maintenance on public lands surrounding Bull Shoals and Norfork Lakes. The effort will involve contracted maintenance crews working on 113 miles of boundary lines at Bull Shoals Lake and 66 miles at Norfork Lake.
Crews will begin work at Bull Shoals Lake in the Mountain Creek area of Baxter County, Arkansas, extending north into Ozark County, Missouri, through the Pontiac, Spring Creek, and Haskins Ford areas. From there, they will proceed south through Theodosia, Missouri, and conclude in the Turkey Creek area of Ozark County. Similarly, at Norfork Lake, maintenance will start in the Jordan area of Baxter County and move east-northeast into Fulton County, Arkansas, covering the Kerley Point, Big Creek, and Brushy Creek areas. Work will continue south-southwest back into Baxter County, reaching Woods Point, Hand Cove, and Diamond Bay.
Xterra Services, Inc., under a USACE contract, will handle reestablishment and maintenance of boundary lines. The work involves locating survey monuments, clearing brush and vegetation on the public land side of the boundary, and repainting or replacing boundary markers. Selected trees will also be painted as reference points, and any missing monuments or deteriorated markings will be documented for future restoration. USACE park rangers will periodically inspect boundary sections during the process.
The USACE Mountain Home Project Office, which oversees Bull Shoals and Norfork Lakes along with the surrounding public lands, emphasized the importance of clear and accurate boundary lines. The project collects data to ensure maintenance improves visibility of existing boundaries and identifies situations where unauthorized activities or encroachments may be present. Any such situations will be addressed following USACE policies.
Landowners near the affected boundaries may notice maintenance crews working in public areas adjacent to their properties. Officials ask for cooperation to ensure the work proceeds smoothly.
