The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) is preparing to search for its third director in three years as Doug Schoenrock departs for a new role in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announced on Sunday that Schoenrock would become its new executive director. His tenure at AGFC began in May 2025, following the departure of former director Austin Booth.

Schoenrock brings over 30 years of conservation experience to his new position. A longtime volunteer with Ducks Unlimited, he served as the organization's 45th president in 2020 and its board chairman until July 2024.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to join the team at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency,” Schoenrock said in a statement. “As a young man growing up in rural Tennessee, I fell in love with the woods and waters of this state, and I am excited to return home to my Tennessee roots to advance wildlife conservation.”

Schoenrock is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science. He will assume his new position in January 2027.

AGFC has not yet announced its plans for filling the upcoming vacancy.
