A Jacksonville man has been arrested in connection with a fatal multi-vehicle collision that occurred north of Harrison late last year, killing two people and injuring four. The driver, identified as 53-year-old Christopher R. Langley, faces two counts of negligent homicide along with charges of driving left of center and inadequate insurance during an accident, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Arkansas State Police.
Authorities say the crash happened on December 5, 2022, on U.S. Highway 65. Langley's vehicle reportedly crossed the turn lane and entered the southbound lanes, causing an accident that involved a total of five vehicles. Killed in the crash were 30-year-old Breonna M. Martin and 69-year-old James E. Ramsey, both of Harrison.
Four other individuals were hospitalized with injuries sustained during the collision. They included 51-year-old Joshua E. Massengale, 18-year-old Hayden T. Martin, both of Harrison, and 28-year-old Brock D. Andreasen of Jefferson City. Langley himself was among those injured.
According to the affidavit, Langley told troopers he believed he was experiencing low blood sugar and attempted to eat peanut butter to stabilize himself. He recounted having double vision and mounting the curb prior to the crash but could remember little else. Investigators found an open jar of peanut butter on the floor of his vehicle.
State police also noted multiple calls about Langley's erratic driving in the moments leading up to the crash, with one individual reportedly following him for 30 minutes prior to the collision.
Langley is free on a $5,000 bond as he awaits further legal proceedings.
