Republican U.S. Rep. French Hill has secured his fifth term representing Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District, narrowly defeating Democratic challenger Chris Jones in the Nov. 3 general election. According to the Associated Press, Hill garnered 127,000 votes, or 50.9%, compared to Jones’ 123,032 votes, or 49.1%.
The closely contested race saw two familiar political figures vying for the Central Arkansas seat. Hill, first elected to Congress in 2014, has served as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, a body tasked with overseeing federal financial services laws, agencies, and matters related to banking, housing finance, and capital markets. Before his congressional career, Hill worked in banking and founded Community Bank in Little Rock.
Jones, a physicist and ordained minister, entered the race following his 2022 candidacy for Arkansas governor. Returning to the ballot as the Democratic nominee for the 2nd Congressional District, he aimed to unseat Hill and shift the district’s political alignment.
Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District covers much of Central Arkansas, including the capital city of Little Rock. Hill’s victory affirms Republican dominance in the district, continuing his representation of the area in Washington, D.C., for another term.
The race drew significant attention as one of the state’s most closely watched contests, highlighting the contrasting experiences and policy priorities of the two candidates.
