University of Arkansas System President Jay B. Silveria has been named the next president of Purdue University, a position he is set to assume on February 1, 2027. Silveria, who has led the UA System since January 15, 2025, described the opportunity as unplanned but one he could not pass up.
Randy Lawson, chair of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees, praised Silveria's tenure, highlighting his emphasis on teamwork and progress during his time leading one of the state’s largest institutions. "While we are disappointed to receive the news that President Silveria is leaving, I recognize that this is a unique opportunity for him to share his strengths and leadership skills at another well-respected institution that can greatly benefit from them," Lawson said. Lawson noted that Silveria’s leadership style had fostered closer collaboration across the system's 22 campuses, divisions, and units.
In a statement, Silveria expressed his gratitude for his time in Arkansas. "I came to Arkansas knowing very little about the state and the UA System and am leaving with lifelong friends and colleagues who could not have been any more helpful, professional, and warm during our time here," Silveria said. He commended the dedication of the system’s more than 110,000 students and employees and thanked the Board of Trustees for the opportunity to serve.
Lawson stated that Silveria would continue to lead the UA System through January 2027 as the Board prepares to launch a search for his successor. Further details about the leadership transition are expected in the coming weeks.
