Employees of First Community Bank raised a record-breaking $23,500 for Arkansas Children’s Hospital during a monthlong campaign in September to support children battling cancer. The effort, led by employees across the bank’s Arkansas and Missouri locations, marked the organization’s highest fundraising total for the hospital, with $18,009.09 collected through various activities and an additional contribution from the bank itself bringing the final amount to $23,500.
The campaign was organized in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and featured a variety of creative and team-driven efforts. Employees contributed through friendly competitions, unique fundraising initiatives, and events such as a silent auction, which showcased artwork created by patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The campaign reflected both the bank’s commitment to community engagement and the strong dedication of its employees, according to Mary Henderson, First Community Bank’s senior vice president and director of loan review, who co-organized the effort.
“Every year, I am amazed by the compassion and enthusiasm our employees bring to this cause, and this year they truly outdid themselves,” Henderson said. “Our team members put so much heart into these efforts, finding creative ways to raise money, encouraging one another and making the entire month something special. But what makes this campaign so meaningful is the children and families we are supporting. They are the true heroes, and we are honored to play even a small part in their journeys.”
Branches and departments participated in friendly competitions to encourage involvement, aided by designated leaders who coordinated activities and motivated employees. Personal stories about the impact of childhood cancer, shared through employee spotlights, and the artwork of Arkansas Children’s Hospital patients highlighted the emotional significance of the campaign.
“At First Community Bank, we believe that being a community bank means showing up for our neighbors, especially when they need us most,” said Boris Dover, the bank’s president and chief operating officer. “Our employees have once again demonstrated what it means to put community first. Their generosity, teamwork and genuine desire to help others are what make our organization so special. We are incredibly proud to support Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the important care it provides to children and families throughout our region.”
The bank’s childhood cancer awareness committee, responsible for organizing and coordinating September’s events, consisted of Miyah Merced, Nikki Bittle, Ashley Davis, Maddie Cruthis, Joan Brady, Lindy Hopper, Gene Crawford, Canon Luter, and Jamie Moore. Henderson and Pat Rutherford led the group. Collectively, their efforts underscored the vital role of teamwork in creating meaningful community impact.
Arkansas Children’s Hospital provides pediatric care and specialized treatment for children across the state and beyond. The funds raised by First Community Bank employees contribute toward supporting families and enhancing the hospital’s ability to care for young patients facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
