POCAHONTAS, Ark. — The race for mayor of Pocahontas will be decided in a runoff election after no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary.
According to unofficial results released by the Randolph County Clerk’s Office, incumbent Mayor Keith Futrell led the field with 545 votes. Danny Swann, the second-highest vote-getter, received 298 votes. Other candidates, Aaron Winebaugh and Justin Jones, garnered 243 and 78 votes, respectively.
Under Arkansas election law, if no candidate in a municipal race secures a majority, the two candidates with the most votes advance to a runoff. The runoff election has been scheduled for Friday, December 1.
This process ensures that the final vote will reflect majority support from voters. Pocahontas residents will now decide if Mayor Futrell will remain in office or if Swann will assume the role.
Further election results can be obtained by contacting local election officials.
