A Jonesboro man is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault after police say he pointed a gun at a woman and chased two individuals during a disturbance earlier this month.
According to court documents, Reco Brown appeared before Special Judge Barbara Halsey on November 4. The judge found probable cause to pursue the Class D felony charge, setting Brown’s bond at $75,000 cash or surety.
Jonesboro police responded to the incident on November 2 near the 500 block of North Culberhouse Street. Before officers arrived, the suspect was reportedly seen leaving the area in a black Yukon. Officers located the vehicle nearby and conducted a traffic stop, taking Brown into custody without incident.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded Ruger LCP handgun in the center console, according to a probable cause affidavit. The firearm reportedly had one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.
A woman at the scene told police she witnessed Brown arguing with another woman before he retrieved a firearm from the Yukon. She claimed Brown pointed the gun at her and chased her, then pursued a second person.
The second person confirmed to authorities that he had a verbal altercation with Brown and saw a firearm in his possession. He reported hearing a gunshot, fleeing, and hiding until officers arrived.
Brown admitted to owning the firearm but denied pointing it at anyone or discharging it, the affidavit states. He told officers the weapon was stored in the vehicle’s center console.
The affidavit also noted that Brown and the first person did not know each other, while Brown and the second individual were co-workers.
Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 16 at 8:30 a.m. in Craighead County Circuit Court.
Officials remind that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
