Republican Kim Hammer has been elected as Arkansas's Secretary of State, according to projections from the Associated Press.
Initial unofficial results show Hammer receiving 55.9% of the vote, defeating Democratic candidate Kelly Grappe, who garnered 39.6%. Libertarian candidate Michael Pakko finished third with 4.6% of the vote.
Hammer, currently serving as a State Senator, campaigned on issues including election security and streamlining services provided by the Secretary of State’s office. The position oversees the administration of elections, business registrations, and the maintenance of state records.
Hammer’s victory continues the Republican Party’s dominance in Arkansas, where the GOP holds every statewide office and a majority in the state legislature. Grappe, a business owner and advocate, had focused her campaign on expanding voter accessibility and improving transparency in office operations. Pakko emphasized limited government and individual liberty during his run.
Residents of the state cast their votes during an election that saw steady turnout across Arkansas, according to local election officials. While final certified results are pending, the margin of Hammer's win confirms his mandate to take on the role.
Hammer is set to assume office in January 2027, succeeding John Thurston, also a Republican, who has held the position since 2019.
