Music fans in Mountain Home can enjoy a night of Motown, soul, and R&B this Thursday, November 5, as the vocal group UPTOWN brings its “A Celebration of Motown and Soul” show to the Vada Sheid Community Development Center at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home. The performance begins at 7 p.m.
UPTOWN, a group based in New York and Los Angeles, is known for blending Motown and R&B classics with modern pop hits. Comparisons to music legends Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye often follow their performances, and the group describes their stage presence as similar to Bruno Mars. The show is complemented by dynamic choreography, which the group’s booking agency describes as “wall to wall.”
The group typically features three lead singers and alternates between recorded backing tracks or a live band, depending on the venue. In addition to its primary show, UPTOWN also tours with a holiday-themed production titled “A Very Soulful Christmas.”
Thursday’s concert is part of a busy fall schedule for UPTOWN. The group recently performed at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in August, will appear in Joplin, Missouri, on November 6, and will join the Gulf Coast Symphony in Fort Myers, Florida, on November 18.
Tickets for the Mountain Home show are $40 for adults and $20 for students. They can be purchased online at thesheid.com or by calling the box office at 870-508-6280. The Vada Sheid Community Development Center is located at 1600 South College Street.
This performance marks the third program in The Sheid’s 15th anniversary performing arts season. The season opened in September with a production by the multimedia art group Artrageous and featured a concert by Smash Mouth on October 30. Upcoming events include a lecture by Southern food writer John T. Edge on November 19, followed by the holiday concert “Christmas With the Nelsons” on December 13, starring Matthew and Gunnar Nelson. The season concludes March 7 with a performance by Cirque Mechanics.
