Jonesboro, Ark. — A proposed 0.625% sales and use tax was decisively rejected by voters in Jonesboro, according to unofficial election results from the Craighead County Clerk’s Office.

The measure failed with 10,142 votes cast against it and 7,088 in favor, excluding absentee ballots. If approved, the tax would have funded public safety services, facilities, infrastructure projects, and related maintenance and operations.

The proposal aimed to address both new and existing needs for the city’s public safety and infrastructure systems.

Unofficial numbers suggest a clear voter preference to avoid additional taxation at this time. The next steps for addressing funding gaps in these areas remain unclear.

Further updates on election outcomes are expected as official results, including absentee ballots, are finalized.
