Craighead County residents have voted to merge the offices of county treasurer and county tax collector into a single entity.

According to unofficial results from the Craighead County Clerk’s Office, the measure passed with 15,642 votes in favor and 9,104 votes opposed. These numbers do not include absentee ballots.

The ordinance establishing the consolidation will take effect on January 1, 2031.

The decision reflects efforts by some counties in Arkansas to streamline local government functions and potentially improve efficiency. The merger means that one office will assume the responsibilities currently handled separately by the treasurer and tax collector.

No further details were immediately available regarding how the transition will be implemented or who may oversee the consolidated office once the changes are in place.
