JONESBORO, Ark. — A driver is facing a felony charge after allegedly leaving the scene of a collision with a pedestrian at Arkansas State University on October 7, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Jaquana Pruitt is charged with a Class D felony for failing to provide information, remain at the scene, and render aid following the incident. Judge David Boling set her bond at $5,000 cash or surety during a November 2 court hearing.
Arkansas State University Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Marion Berry Parkway and Aggie Road around 10:18 p.m. after receiving a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. According to the affidavit, the vehicle left the scene shortly after the collision.
Investigators reviewed campus surveillance footage, which reportedly showed the car striking the pedestrian in a marked crosswalk while attempting to travel north through the intersection. The affidavit states that the driver stopped, exchanged words with the pedestrian, and then left. The pedestrian later told investigators he asked the driver to pull to the side so emergency services could be contacted.
Officers located Pruitt driving the vehicle early on October 8, the affidavit states. In a written statement provided to police, Pruitt reportedly said she drove off when she saw the pedestrian calling police, even though he had asked her to pull over.
According to the affidavit, the pedestrian sustained minor injuries, including scrapes and cuts.
Pruitt’s next court appearance is set for December 16.
Court records note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
