Highland School District facilities remain closed today and Wednesday following the identification last week of a potential mold issue in portions of school buildings.
The closure affects all Highland campuses, including the high school, middle school, and Cherokee Elementary, but the preschool remains open, district officials confirmed.
Testing and mold analysis are being conducted by EnviroPro, which is working to develop recommendations and protocols for any necessary remediation. The district has also engaged ServPro, a professional cleaning and restoration company, to address the issue based on EnviroPro’s findings.
District administrators stated they have notified state officials of the situation and are including them in the remediation process. They also acknowledged the concern the potential mold presence may cause for families and staff.
In light of the closures, the district plans to evaluate options for making up missed instructional days, including the possibility of adjusting the school calendar. No timeline for reopening the affected facilities has been provided.
Further updates will be shared with the community as the testing and remediation efforts progress.
