A 22-year-old Jonesboro woman has been charged with a Class D felony after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash that injured a pedestrian at Arkansas State University.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred at approximately 10:18 p.m. on Oct. 7 at the intersection of Marion Berry Parkway and Aggie Road. Officers with the Arkansas State University Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian in a campus crosswalk before leaving the scene.

Campus camera footage reportedly showed the vehicle striking the victim while attempting to travel north through the intersection. The affidavit states the driver, identified as Jaquana Tasha Pruitt, initially stopped and spoke with the victim but drove away despite being asked to pull to the side and contact help.

In her written statement to investigators, Pruitt claimed she left after seeing the victim call police. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries, including cuts and scrapes, police said.

Officers located Pruitt driving the vehicle in the early hours of Oct. 8, and she was later arrested on Oct. 30. Craighead County District Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Pruitt under Arkansas’ accident laws. She was released on Nov. 2 after posting a $5,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing, and no trial date has been set.
