Fayetteville, Ark. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left six people injured early Sunday morning in Fayetteville's downtown entertainment district near the University of Arkansas.

The Fayetteville Police Department responded to reports of gunfire near Dickson Street, the city's hub for nightlife, bars, and music venues. Police say preliminary findings indicate that a fight broke out just before the shooting occurred.

First responders transported six individuals to regional hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds. The victims' identities and medical conditions have not yet been released.

No suspects have been apprehended as of Sunday afternoon. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements. They are also asking anyone with information or smartphone footage of the incident to contact the department’s criminal investigations division at 479-583-6440.

The shooting took place hours after the University of Arkansas hosted its annual homecoming game against the University of Missouri, which drew tens of thousands of fans and visitors to Fayetteville. The city's Dickson Street area was packed with weekend revelers and Halloween partygoers when the gunfire erupted.

This incident marks one of two mass shootings reported in Arkansas during the Halloween weekend. Early Sunday morning, Little Rock police responded to gunfire near a southwest downtown strip mall. That shooting left one man dead and several others injured, though authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of wounded.

These shootings in Arkansas are part of a larger pattern of violence reported nationwide over the holiday weekend. In nightlife districts across at least six U.S. cities, authorities say at least six people were killed and dozens more were wounded.

Fayetteville police continue their investigation into the downtown shooting and are asking for public assistance in identifying those involved.
