Highland, Ark. — The Highland School District has announced that its campuses will remain closed through at least Wednesday, Nov. 4, following the discovery of potential mold in portions of its facilities.

The closure affects Cherokee Elementary School, Highland Middle School, and Highland High School. Highland Preschool, however, will remain open, according to a statement from the district.

District officials have engaged EnviroPro to conduct testing and formulate protocols for any necessary remediation. SERVPRO has also been hired to perform remediation and abatement in line with the recommendations provided by EnviroPro. Relevant state officials have been notified and are involved in the process.

In its statement, the district acknowledged the concerns families and staff may have regarding the situation and assured the community that measures are being taken to address the issue.

School administrators are exploring options to make up for instructional days lost during the closures, including possibly extending the school calendar.

Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
