A Strawberry man has been charged in connection with the alleged theft of a Chevrolet Suburban from a residence in Pangburn in April. Darin Wayne Bowers, 32, faces multiple charges, including one count of residential burglary, a Class B felony, theft of property valued at more than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a Class C felony, and breaking or entering, a Class D felony.
Bowers, who was on supervised parole from Cleburne County, was initially identified as a suspect after parole officers informed investigators that he was reportedly in possession of a stolen vehicle. According to police reports, Batesville authorities spotted Bowers driving the Suburban through the city before he and a woman identified as Megan Eaton were located later the same day in a wooded area north of Poughkeepsie by Sharp County authorities.
When questioned, Eaton disclosed the location of the stolen vehicle, which deputies subsequently found abandoned near the Strawberry River. Both Bowers and Eaton were taken into custody and transported to the White County Detention Center.
Authorities later secured a bench warrant in the case. Bowers was booked into the Sharp County Detention Center on additional charges, including driving on a suspended license, careless or prohibited driving, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to vehicles only, no tags, no liability insurance, and a hold for another agency or county.
Bowers remains in custody at the White County Detention Center, awaiting a hearing scheduled for February 3.
