Highland schools will remain closed until Thursday due to an ongoing HVAC issue at Cherokee Elementary School, district officials announced.
The closure began Friday, when administrators initially shut down Cherokee Elementary after the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system malfunctioned. To maintain consistency in the school calendar while the problem is addressed, the entire district will remain out of session through Wednesday.
School officials made the decision as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and comfort of students as well as staff.
No timeline for repairs was immediately available, though classes are slated to resume on Thursday unless further disruptions occur. Families with questions have been encouraged to stay in touch with the district for updates.
