October continued the trend of warm and dry weather across northern Arkansas, according to data from Highland and Salem weather stations. Highland recorded 2.34 inches of rain for the month, while Salem saw 3.69 inches.
Temperatures fluctuated widely during October, with the highest reaching 92 degrees on both the 10th and 14th. The lowest temperatures hit the freezing point, recorded at 32 degrees on the mornings of October 17 and 18.
There was a notable weather development at the beginning of the month. For the first time this year, measurable rainfall was recorded on the first day of the month. Highland received 0.59 inches on October 1, with 0.45 inches measured in Salem.
Looking ahead, the forecast shows promise for more rain. Showers are possible today, and Election Day on Tuesday is expected to bring significant precipitation, with nearly a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms. Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches are likely.
Weather watchers remain hopeful these predictions will provide relief to the ongoing dry conditions across the region.
