A Jonesboro man faces multiple charges after authorities say he assaulted his girlfriend, stole her belongings, and struck her with his vehicle.
Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Friday to charge Jaylen Keshune Scales following an alleged incident on Oct. 29. Scales is accused of domestic battery, robbery, theft of property, third-degree battery, and felony interference with emergency communications.
According to a report from the Jonesboro Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Kathleen Drive after the alleged victim contacted police. The woman told officers that Scales had visited her apartment following an earlier argument to retrieve personal belongings. She claimed Scales forced his way inside and began assaulting her, slamming her head against a wall, slapping her, and choking her while accusing her of infidelity.
The victim stated that Scales took several of her belongings, including her cell phone, iPad, house keys, and vehicle keys, with a combined estimated value of approximately $1,900. After the assault, the woman fled the apartment on foot to a friend’s residence. While walking on Kathleen Drive, she said Scales followed her in his vehicle, struck her at a low speed, and caused her to fall onto the hood of the car.
The victim alleged that after hitting her with the car, Scales got out, restrained her, and forced her into the vehicle. During the drive, she recounted that Scales took her to a gravel road near a construction site, where he attempted to push her out of the vehicle. As she tried to resist, she reportedly grabbed onto the windshield wiper, breaking it off.
She claimed that Scales then struck her with the broken wiper blade, dragged her across the gravel, and threw her onto the rocks. Officers documented injuries on the victim consistent with her statements, including cuts and bruises.
Police located Scales still seated inside his vehicle, which matched the description provided by the victim. According to the report, Scales refused to exit the vehicle, and officers used physical force to remove him and place him under arrest.
He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on Dec. 16.
Authorities ask anyone experiencing domestic violence or related issues to contact law enforcement or local support services immediately.
