A Memphis man has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges following a high-speed pursuit through Craighead County last year.
Dillion Mitchell, 29, entered a negotiated plea Wednesday to two charges: fleeing in a vehicle and violation of the omnibus DWI Act. According to court records, Mitchell received 12 months of suspended imposition of sentence on each charge. Additional charges for refusing to submit to a chemical test and reckless driving were dropped under the plea agreement.
The incident occurred on November 17, 2025, when Arkansas State Police were alerted to a chase initiated by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. Mitchell was reportedly driving a Ford Mustang southbound on U.S. Highway 63, evading law enforcement.
Trooper Cpl. Jeffrey Irvin of the Arkansas State Police spotted the vehicle and joined the pursuit, according to the probable cause affidavit. The Mustang reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, narrowly avoided hitting a turning truck, and ran through a red light at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and U.S. Highway 63B.
The chase continued onto Interstate 555, where Mitchell attempted to exit the highway by making a sharp turn from the left lane onto the Washington Avenue exit. He lost control of the car, crashing into a metal sign for the exit ramp. The vehicle came to a stop before it could re-enter Interstate 555.
Mitchell was taken into custody without further incident and was transferred to the Craighead County Detention Center.
This negotiated plea concludes the legal proceedings stemming from the high-speed chase.
