JONESBORO, Ark. — A former property manager is accused of stealing more than $6,000 in rent payments and altering deposit records to hide the missing funds, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Craighead County.

Lora Samples faces a Class C felony theft charge following allegations from Bearden Rentals, which reported the missing money on September 10.

A company representative told police that Samples made alterations to deposit slips and check numbers to conceal discrepancies and took money orders from the deposits she processed for the business, the affidavit claims.

The alleged incidents occurred over several months, the document states. The company’s owner reportedly maintained a detailed file outlining the affected deposits.

According to the affidavit, Samples admitted responsibility for the missing funds when Bearden Rentals dismissed her from the job and allegedly offered to reimburse the money.

Court records include a handwritten note indicating that Samples later turned herself in at the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

Judge David Boling ruled there was probable cause to proceed with the case during an October 28 hearing. Bond for Samples was set at $5,000, which can be secured with cash or a surety.

Court documents indicate her next appearance is scheduled for December 16.

Under Arkansas law, individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
