JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man faces two felony charges following an alleged theft of $111.87 in merchandise from the Highland Walmart, according to court documents.
Kenyatta B. Johnson is charged with commercial burglary and shoplifting after a reported incident on Oct. 26. Police allege Johnson entered the Walmart on a motorized shopping scooter while carrying a backpack, concealed items inside, and left without paying.
The store’s asset protection employee reported the theft and said Johnson had been banned from the store since July 4, according to a probable cause affidavit. Jonesboro police stated that a review of records also revealed a prior conviction for theft of property valued at less than $1,000 on June 16.
The affidavit valued the allegedly stolen merchandise at $111.87. Commercial burglary is classified as a Class C felony, while shoplifting involving property valued at $1,000 or less—second offense—is a Class D felony, according to first appearance documents.
Judge David Boling reviewed the probable cause findings on Oct. 28 and set Johnson’s bond at $1,500 cash or surety. Johnson’s next court date is scheduled for Dec. 16.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
