A 41-year-old inmate escaped from the Brinkley Police Department’s detention center early Thursday morning after reportedly assaulting law enforcement personnel and taking an officer’s Taser, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Rodney Smith fled on foot around 7:15 a.m., state police said. Law enforcement agencies, including state troopers, special agents, and the Arkansas Division of Correction’s K-9 unit, are assisting Brinkley police in the search.

Smith, who was in custody awaiting transfer to the state Division of Correction, was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, yellow pants, and white socks. He was not wearing shoes at the time of his escape. Authorities described him as a Black man, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 260 pounds.

State police noted that Smith has an arrest history that includes charges of aggravated robbery and domestic battery. Officials have advised the public not to approach or attempt to detain him, as he could be dangerous.
