ASH FLAT, Ark. — Arkansas State Police are investigating the death of an individual held at the Sharp County Detention Center, according to a release Wednesday from the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office.
The death occurred on Tuesday, Sheriff Shane Russell said. In keeping with standard protocol for incidents of this nature, the Sheriff’s Office promptly contacted the Arkansas State Police to oversee an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” Sheriff Russell stated. “To maintain the integrity of the investigative process, no further details will be provided at this time.”
State police are expected to release additional information at the conclusion of their investigation.
