Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders spoke about efforts to strengthen rural healthcare, education, and other priorities during a visit to Mountain Home on Tuesday. While at the Vantive plant, the governor addressed local topics in an interview with KTLO.
Sanders emphasized the role of the Rural Health Transformation Initiative in supporting hospitals such as Baxter Health, the largest employer in the Mountain Home area. The initiative is designed to bolster rural healthcare infrastructure across Arkansas.
Addressing education, the governor highlighted progress under the LEARNS Act, pointing to its impact on teacher salaries. The legislation increased starting wages for new teachers and provided avenues for veteran educators to receive higher compensation. "We're making sure our teachers are supported," Sanders said.
Sanders noted improvements in district-level education performance, citing Cotter School District’s A-grade status and Mountain Home schools' gains. She attributed these developments to an enhanced focus on education under her administration's policies.
When asked about the possibility of free school lunch programs being included in the upcoming legislative session, Sanders gave no definitive answer. The session is scheduled to begin on January 11, 2027.
In her comments, the governor underlined her administration’s ongoing commitment to addressing challenges in rural communities across Arkansas.
