A judge has set bond at $100,000 for a Jonesboro woman accused of stabbing another woman during a confrontation earlier this week.
Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling ruled Wednesday that there was probable cause to charge 23-year-old Sydnee Mathis with first-degree battery, a Class B felony. The charge stems from an incident reported on Oct. 25 on Belt Street in Jonesboro.
According to an affidavit from Detective Bruce Wright, officers were called to the 500 block of Belt Street regarding a stabbing incident. When law enforcement arrived, they discovered a female victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Witnesses at the scene reported that a physical altercation between the victim and another woman escalated when Mathis allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, according to Wright.
The victim was transported to a hospital for emergency surgery. No updates on her current condition have been provided.
Police arrested Mathis shortly after the incident and transported her to the Craighead County Detention Center. She is scheduled to appear for arraignment in circuit court on Dec. 16.
Under the conditions of her bond, Judge Boling ordered Mathis to have no contact with the alleged victim and to wear a GPS ankle monitor if she is released.
The case remains under investigation.
