JONESBORO, Ark. – A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 months of suspended imposition of sentence after pleading guilty to charges related to the theft of a golf cart from Arkansas State University.

Court records show that Robert Deshun Selvy negotiated guilty pleas to theft of property valued at less than $1,000 and first-degree criminal mischief, both Class A misdemeanors. Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Scott Ellington handed down the sentence Monday and ordered Selvy to pay all court costs, fines, and fees in $75 monthly installments. Selvy was also ordered to pay $1,954.28 in restitution, according to the sentencing order.

The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 14, when Arkansas State University police were alerted to the theft of a golf cart owned by SS Custom Carts and leased to the A-State Alumni Association for the football season.

An affidavit filed in the case states that campus surveillance footage captured three individuals approaching the golf cart from Red Wolf Boulevard before stealing it. The trio reportedly drove the cart to the Embassy Suites hotel and then left campus in a black Chevrolet Malibu. Traffic cameras later recorded the golf cart traveling to a Maverick gas station on East Johnson Avenue before meeting up with the Malibu on State Street.

Officers recovered the golf cart on Sept. 15 at approximately 11 a.m., officials said.

Court documents identified Selvy’s co-defendants as Caleb Deshaun Quinn and Taris Durell Randolph. Both are scheduled for jury trials on Dec. 7. Prior to that, motion and plea hearings are scheduled for Nov. 5 and Nov. 13.

No further details regarding the outcomes of those proceedings were available at the time of publication.
