Authorities in Sharp County arrested a 30-year-old woman Tuesday afternoon following a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle that crossed into Lawrence County.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., a 2017 Dodge Durango was reported stolen from the parking lot of a Dollar General Store in Sharp County, according to authorities. A Sharp County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was near the location at the time, quickly located the vehicle heading southbound on Highway 63 toward the Lawrence County line.
Sharp County Dispatch alerted Lawrence County officials of the approaching pursuit. Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and officers from Ravenden Police Department responded with spike strips near the Sharp-Lawrence County line to assist.
During the pursuit, officers reported speeds reaching between 85 and 100 miles per hour. The chase came to an end when the vehicle entered Rone Valley Park near the county line. There, authorities took the driver, identified as Denitria Thompson, into custody.
Thompson was booked into the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on multiple charges, including felony fleeing, theft of property valued between $5,000 and $25,000, and reckless driving. She remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing and court date.
The stolen vehicle was recovered by law enforcement during the operation.
