Schools in the area are taking part in National Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest annual drug use prevention awareness campaign. This year’s theme, "Make a Difference, Be a Hero, Stay Drug Free," encourages students, educators, and communities to commit to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
At Izard County STEM School, the Chase Club, a student-led organization, has organized a week of themed events for students and staff to enjoy while spreading the campaign’s message. Chase Club leader Brandon Treat detailed the schedule, which began with "Mismatch Monday" and "Twinning Tuesday." On Wednesday, the school held "Wisdom vs. Youth Day," featuring a student-teacher swap where students dressed as teachers and teachers dressed as students.
The week continues with "Red Out Day" on Thursday, encouraging everyone to wear red in solidarity with the anti-drug campaign, and wraps up Friday with a Halloween costume day. Treat explained that the Chase Club regularly sponsors positive and engaging activities throughout the school year to foster a supportive and healthy environment for students.
Red Ribbon Week has served as a national drug awareness campaign since 1985, empowering young people to make healthy choices and avoid drug use. Schools across Arkansas and the nation are participating in similar activities to promote the program’s mission.
