Mountain Home’s annual Veterans Day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at First Security Bank Veterans Plaza 2000 in downtown Mountain Home. The event, sponsored by the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council, is free and open to the public.
This year, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30 of Mountain Home will serve as the host organization, following Fleet Reserve Association Branch 251, which led last year’s ceremony marking the plaza's 25th anniversary. Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Allan Hale, the senior naval science instructor for the Mountain Home High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC), will deliver the keynote address.
Greg Hartman, commander of VFW Post 3246, is set to act as master of ceremonies, while Dr. George Wolford of DAV Chapter 30 will serve as the event chaplain. Kattie Laney will perform the national anthem, continuing her role from last year. Music will be provided by the Mountain Home High School Band and KTLO Radio, which will also broadcast the ceremony and provide sound support.
The program will include a presentation of the colors by local veterans organizations. Military honors, including a rifle salute, will be rendered by the honor guard of Alley-White American Legion Post 52. Coffee and cupcakes will be available for attendees at VFW Post 3246 following the ceremony.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to VFW Post 3246, located at 214 W. Seventh St., directly behind the square. Organizers stated that any location changes will be announced on KTLO Radio.
The public is encouraged to attend this commemoration honoring the nation’s veterans for their service and sacrifice.
