The Baxter County Quorum Court will convene Monday evening with a brief agenda featuring a presentation from the county Extension Office, an appointment to the Rodney-Jordan Volunteer Fire Protection District board, and routine financial matters from the sheriff’s office. The meeting, presided over by County Judge Kevin Litty, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the second-floor courtroom of the Baxter County Courthouse.
Amanda Rychtarik, Chair of the Baxter County Extension Office and 4-H Agent, is the only presenter scheduled for the evening. While the agenda does not specify the focus of her presentation, her office previously reported in October last year that it made nearly 30,000 contacts with county residents, facilitated over 4,300 volunteer hours through Master Gardener and 4-H programs, and helped secure over $391,000 in contracts and economic development funding.
The court will also consider a resolution confirming Judge Litty’s appointment of Rich Geib to the Rodney-Jordan Volunteer Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners. Geib would fill a seat vacated by Jerry Klaus, whose term was set to expire in October 2027. Neither the date nor the reason for Klaus’s resignation was included in the resolution. If approved, this would mark the second appointment to the fire board this year. The Quorum Court previously appointed Lucian “Skip” Lane in July.
Another item on the agenda is an ordinance appropriating $6,586.46 in fees and reimbursements collected by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office in September. Such appropriations are a routine monthly process to allocate unbudgeted revenue to specific expense lines. The breakdown for September includes $2,692.85 in installment fees, $1,885 in Act 770 fees, $970.98 for inmate prescription reimbursements, $435.13 for inmate medical reimbursements, $400 in Social Security funds, $127.50 in district court DUI fines, $50 for VIN inspections, and $25 from an animal adoption. The funds will be distributed among the Sheriff’s Special Projects Fund, general fund, County Jail Fund, and the Animal Control Fund.
Additionally, County Treasurer Jenay Mize will provide a treasurer’s report. No committee reports, old business, or announcements are listed on the agenda.
This meeting occurs shortly before Election Day. Unlike last November, when the court adopted the county budget for 2026, this year’s agenda does not include a budget ordinance. The meeting is open to the public.
